Bill is a wonderful 12 years old pug . He has always been healthy until March/2010 when he got thinner and thinner. He presented ocasional diarrhea, vomited sometimes an had edema in his legs. Blood investigation and US showed a liver disease (hepatopathy), with high level of liver enzymes (TGP: 296 UVL) and low level of albumin (protein) in the blood: 2g/DL . Bill entered the sad statistic of liver disease in our elder pugs, like Bartô, Flavia, Lili e Gisele. Since then and until October/2011 he has been treated with specific dry food (Hepatic of Royal Canin) and silymarin (Legalon). He got some better, but the edema used to come back now and then. He was still thin, although eating the apropriate amount of food. Diarrhea and vomiting was less frequent. TGP was normal but albumin was still low: it’s lowest rate came down to 1.5g/DL. In October/2011 we changed dry food to home made food for all pugs in our kennel, adding specific items for the liver in Bill’s case and others, like sweet potato. One month after, Bill showed improvement of general condition: some kilos more fat, no more diarrhea, no more vomiting, no more edema and blood albumin level raised to 2 .2g/DL (normal reference: 2 .3 to 3.8 g/DL). In december/2011 he began Phytoterapy, getting even more better, and his weight got to normal. In January/2012 blood albumin level raised to unbelievable 2 .9g/DL and Bill is again the happy and impressive pug he has ever been.
