Our pugs do not shed that much since we replaced dry food for home made food. It´s a good new for pug’s owners, as pugs shed all time. Their fur is very soft and shiny, and that means health.

Pugs are prone to spine problems. It could be expected, as we breeders made their backs shorter and shorter, according to the standart. The same number of vertebrae in a shorter back resulted in their flattening. This caused various kinds of pathologies, like herniated vertebral disc of the spine. So it´s a weak point of the pug and care must be taken to protect it. They cannot have impact on the spine, like jumping down from the sofa ou walking downstairs. Little things may prevent many problems in the future. Unfortunaly here we learned it with experience, and we had some bad cases in our kennel: Vivi, Bonitão, Radical Chic and Victor Hugo needed phisiotherapy and acupunture, and one of them was submited to a very agressive surgery to correct the spine hernia. Vivi and Bonitão could not walk anymore when they died, despite all treatments. So this is our alert to bredders and owners: when breeding, do not shorten that much pug’s backs, and take care to make the routine of your pugs safe, avoiding impact on this back.
